Welcome to The Cooper Union Continuing Education Program
The American system of continuing education originated at The Cooper Union with its founding in 1859.
Peter Cooper, inventor, industrialist, and philanthropist, wanted to bring first-class educational opportunities
to adults in New York and devoted his entire fortune to that goal. For over 150 years, The Cooper Union
has maintained this tradition of outstanding courses for adults in its Department of Continuing Education.
We invite you to take part in our courses this Spring.
Among our Spring course offerings are:
Book Arts
Calligraphy and Typography
Collage and Mixed Media

David Greenstein, Director

GREEN BUILDING DESIGN CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Green Building Design
The Continuing Education Department of the Cooper Union offers professional development courses for engineers, architects, developers, designers, and members of allied professions. These courses, taught by leading practitioners in their fields, sharpen professional skills or add new ones. Most of the courses also meet state license-renewal requirements. Students may take individual courses or, by accumulating 110 hours of coursework within two years, qualify for a Certificate in Green Building Design from Cooper Union’s Department of Continuing Education. The Green Building Design Certificate Program began in the fall of 2007 with 30 participants, there are now over 100. One of our most popular courses is the LEED Prep course for those planning to take the LEED New Construction exam.
Further information is available by contacting the Director of Continuing Education, David Greenstein at davidg@cooper.edu or 212-353-4198.
*All courses in the Green Building Design program provide one Learning Unit (LU in AIA terminology) or one Professional Development Hour (PDH in engineering terminology) per class hour. All courses meet AIA requirements for Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) and Sustainable Development (SD).
NEW: You can now complete three of our Green Building Design courses on-line through the New York Times Knowledge Network. The courses cover the same subject matter and are taught by the same instructors as the courses taught at The Cooper Union in New York. They meet the same professional development requirements as well. Register for these on-line courses through our website
