Writing New York Stories

Inspired by one of the most popular courses in our Continuing Education program, Writing New York Stories explores classic stories set in New York and challenges students to create their own essays, short stories or dramas with NYC themes. Students will read and discuss works by such writers as Herman Melville, Woody Allen, Norman Mailer, Anna Quindlin, Pete Hamill and Nora Ephron. Students write exercises in class and stories at home to read aloud in class. Individual attention gives all participants a great opportunity to discover their personal voices while writing about their favorite urban legends, local characters, subway stories, childhood games, vanishing occupations or endangered spaces. Past students have published works created in this course in a variety of publications. Students MUST enroll 5 business days prior to the course start date, the final day to register without paying a $15 late fee for all classes in the Fall 2014 semester is September 22nd.
